Our B-17 landed at the PAA airfield at Natal in Brazil prior to our hop across the Atlantic. PAA employees manually wobble-pumped about 1500 gallons of fuel through a chamois into our aircraft from the 55 gallon oil drums scattered about. This was being accomplished while a German AirLine was operating JU-52 transports off the same field. Brazil was a Neutral in January 1942. We didn’t bother them and they didn’t bother us.
