This is a copy of a painting I completed on site at Mareeba, Northern Queensland, Australia. (The whereabouts of the original are not known). Our maintenance crews were continually cannibalizing other aircraft to keep our B-17’s available for combat missions. Supplies of aircraft parts and equipment were not available in Australia during most of 1942. The largest combat mission formation that I flew in was but nine B-17’s.
